Making change stick
When a company embarks on a journey to step up its performance, consideration must be given to each of the 7S’s and not just the S for strategy. But even when plans for each of the 7S’s have been formulated, how does a company go about making change stick? Here are ten top tips that can help facilitate the transition process.
- Establish a sense of urgency to change.
- Form a powerful guiding coalition of movers and shakers from all levels within the organisation.
- Create a compelling vision.
- Communicate this vision widely and repeatedly.
- Empower others to act on the vision.
- Remove any obstacles to change.
- Plan to create some quick early wins to build confidence.
- Consolidate improvements and move onto the next step.
- Anchor the changes into the corporate culture.
- Don’t declare victory too early – organisational change is often a long slow draw out process requiring lots of push and reinforcement from the management team.
